On Sept 21, the fourth Belt and Road Procuratorial Forum (Shaanxi) was held in Xi'an under the theme "Protecting National Overseas Interests through High-quality and Efficient Procuratorial Performance".
Miao Shengming, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), addressed the opening ceremony.
Miao emphasized that since the SPP's Belt and Road Procuratorial Research Base was established and put into operation, efforts have been made to build an integrated platform combining performance of procuratorial functions, education, research, coordination and services, providing intellectual support for the high-quality development of foreign-related procuratorial work.
He noted that overseas interests are an important part of national interests and strengthening judicial protection for overseas interests is a key component of foreign-related rule-of-law development. He urged procuratorial organs to severely punish crimes endangering national security in accordance with the law, intensify the crackdown on transnational economic crimes, effectively deliver judicial remedies for overseas interests, and deepen international judicial exchanges and cooperation, so as to help consolidate legal safeguards for national overseas interests through high-quality and efficient procuratorial performance.
Miao also called for strengthening the development of the research base, making full use of its resources, giving full play to strengths of universities, deepening procuratorate-university cooperation, advancing the research of procuratorial theories to support procuratorial practice, building a stronger procuratorial talent team, and consolidating the talent pool for foreign-related procuratorial think tanks.
The forum was attended by leading officials from relevant SPP departments, heads of procuratorial organs from 12 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, experts and scholars from eight universities including Renmin University of China and East China University of Political Science and Law, as well as winners of the essay competition on the forum's theme.
