The 2026 Cross-Strait Seminar on Procuratorial Systems was held in Ningde, East China's Fujian province, on Aug 26.
Under the theme "Multi-dimensional Considerations for Procuratorial Performance in the New Era," the event brought together 150 legal scholars and practitioners from both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Participants held discussions on three main topics: procuratorial responses to AI-related crimes, prosecutors' power of sentencing recommendations, and procuratorial protection of the ecological environment.
Zhang Xiaojin, a standing council member of the Society of Public Prosecutors of China, noted that the seminar addresses both the opportunities and challenges brought by the digital age, calling for cross-Strait collaboration in exploring solutions to issues and challenges in procuratorial work, promoting the sharing of proven judicial practices and experience, and building new consensus on the development and improvement of procuratorial systems.
Shi Haoyong, an adviser to the Fujian Prosecutors Association, noted that Fujian has fully leveraged its geographical proximity to the Taiwan region to steadily improve Taiwan-related legal services, providing solid rule-of-law safeguards for cross-Strait integrated development. He added that Fujian aims to become a preferred destination for Taiwan-related judicial services and to further solidify the rule-of-law foundation for cross-Strait integrated development.
Sun Qian, a special guest at the seminar, said that digital technologies pose common challenges and tests for procuratorial practice across the Strait. He called for joint research and collaborative solutions to address these issues, emphasizing the need for broadening horizons through dialogue and seeking strategies through the exchange of experience.
Hou Jianjun, president of the Fujian Prosecutors Association, urged continued and deepened cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation in procuratorial matters. He advocated the continuous modernization and improvement of procuratorial systems to contribute more wisdom and strength to advancing high-quality cross-Strait integrated development.
The seminar was co-hosted by the Fujian Prosecutors Association, the Law School of Xiamen University, and the Cross-Strait Procuratorial System Research Center.
