Ying Yong, Chief Grand Prosecutor and Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) of the People's Republic of China, held separate meetings with his counterparts of six ASEAN member states in Hanoi, capital of Vietnam, on the sidelines of the 13th China-ASEAN Prosecutors-General Conference (CAPGC), on the afternoon of Dec 5 (local time).

They included Ahmed, Attorney General of Brunei; Lucien Wong, Attorney-General of Singapore; Ana, Inspector General of the Office of Attorney General of Thailand; Xaysana Khotphouthone, Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate of Laos; Chea Leang, Prosecutor General of Cambodia; and Dida Wu, Attorney General of Myanmar.

Ying conveyed his thanks to the attorney general's chambers of the ASEAN member states for their support and efforts in strengthening the institutional building of the CAPGC, reviewed the exchanges and cooperation between the procuratorial organs of China and each of the ASEAN member states, and gave an introduction to the progress of China's rule of law building, judicial system and procuratorial work.

He said the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has set out a blueprint for building China into a strong country and achieving national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization, and asked for further efforts to build a modern socialist country in all respects under the rule of law and to see that all work of the state is carried out under the rule of law. Ying added that Chinese procuratorial organs have played a vital role in guaranteeing the unified and correct execution of laws, safeguarding national and public interests, advancing rule of law building and protecting the impartial administration of justice.

Ying noted that the procuratorial organs of the ASEAN member states have provided their counterparts in other countries with many useful experiences and practices in promoting economic growth, rule of law building, social fairness and justice. He went on to say that Chinese procuratorial organs have attached great importance to their friendships with their counterparts in the ASEAN member states, and that they will work together to deepen exchanges and cooperation in the field of prosecution, intensify efforts to combat transnational crimes such as high-tech crimes and telecommunications fraud, as well as share and draw on experiences in the construction of the rule of law, digital prosecution, and prosecutorial reforms.

The attorney generals of the six ASEAN member states spoke highly of China's achievements in the advancement of the rule of law and the innovative development of prosecutorial work, and hailed the contributions made by China to the institutional building of the CAPGC. They said that they have closely followed concrete measures taken by Chinese procuratorial organs to promote economic and social development and deepen the reform of the procuratorial system, and expressed willingness to strengthen exchanges with Chinese procuratorial organs, engage in pragmatic cooperation on preventing and fighting against cross-border and high-tech crimes, holding high-level visits, bolstering exchanges and in the training of procuratorial personnel.

Those in attendance of the meeting also included Paul Lam Ting-kwok, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's Secretary for Justice; Ip Son Sang, Public Prosecutor General of the Macao Special Administrative Region; Feng Jian, Chief Prosecutor of the People's Procuratorate of Guangdong Province; Mao Zhonghua, Chief Prosecutor of the People's Procuratorate of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomus Region, and Wang Guanghui, Chief Prosecutor of the People's Procuratorate of Yunnan Province.
