Shanghai Ocean Aquarium
Shanghai Ocean Aquarium covers an area of about 13,000 square meters, with a total floor area of over 20,000 square meters. It the world’s second largest and Asia’s largest aquarium. The theme of the aquarium is “Spanning five continents by a connection of water". There are 28 major themed biological display pavilions, divided by Asia, South America (Amazon), Australia, Africa, Cold-water, Polar, Sea-water, and Deep Ocean. More than 300 varieties, 10,000 kinds of rare fishes and endangered species are displayed here, such as poison dart frogs, jellyfish, sunfish, leaf pipefish, emperor penguins and white sea bass.
In addition to the display of freshwater and marine creatures, Shanghai Ocean Aquarium also invites visitors to appreciate some endangered rare aquatic organisms in China. The Chinese Pavilion mainly displays the aquatic organisms and bio-system in the Yangtze River and some national endangered rare aquatic creatures. In the aquarium, four most-thrilling undersea tunnels with a total length of 168 meters are provided to deliver 180-degree and 270-degree undersea panoramic views on the automatic walk belt.
