Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, has ranked 10th among provincial capitals as part of the 2024 China City Convention and Exhibition Industry Competitiveness Index Report, announced at the "2025 China City Convention and Exhibition Industry Competitiveness Index Research and Results Release" event on Nov 28 in Chengdu, Southwest China's Sichuan province.
The convention and exhibition industry is a vital part of modern services, connecting production, consumption, trade, and investment. It is also a key indicator of a city's openness, vibrancy, and competitiveness.
In recent years, Taiyuan has implemented the "Five Famous" cultivation project (famous city, famous venues, famous exhibitions, famous conferences, and famous enterprises), establishing a development system supported by policies, high-quality entities, leading brands, and talent.
To enhance policy support and optimize the business environment, Taiyuan has introduced targeted and effective measures, awarding subsidies totaling 6.5 million yuan ($919,180) to 131 convention and exhibition projects since 2018.
Over the past three years, Taiyuan has hosted major events such as the National Auto Parts Exhibition, the High-Quality Development Conference for the Construction Industry, the 2nd China Food Industry Brand Expo, and the Central & Western China Health Industry Expo.
Additionally, the city has prioritized talent development by organizing training sessions and skill competitions. It has also supported local businesses' participation in exhibitions, promoted the "Taiyuan Brand," and fostered trade opportunities.
