Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, launched a wildlife protection promotion event at Taiyuan Botanical Garden on March 3 for the 12th World Wildlife Day.
The city is home to 310 species of terrestrial vertebrates across 22 orders and 71 families. This includes 249 bird species that reside, breed, or temporarily stop in the area, 44 mammal species, 12 reptile species, and five amphibian species.
It also has 1,111 species of vascular plants across 138 families and 583 genera. Gymnosperms are represented by 18 species in six families and 12 genera, while pteridophytes account for 25 species in 13 families and 15 genera.
In recent years, Taiyuan has promoted the concept of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. The city has utilized its wildlife protection meeting system to implement comprehensive protection projects, focusing on building a nature reserve system centered around national parks.
Moving forward, Taiyuan will continue to conduct specialized research on wildlife protection planning, advance the construction of the natural reserve system, and enhance the monitoring and protection of critical habitats and bird migration corridors.
The city will strengthen its wildlife rescue and monitoring networks to improve its overall capacity for protection. These efforts aim to enrich Taiyuan's biodiversity and contribute to developing harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
