Taiyuan city and Changzhi High-tech Industrial Development Area in Shanxi province were both selected to join the list of the first 35 cities and zones that rank as national carbon peak pilot sites on Dec 6, as announced by the National Development and Reform Commission.
The commission requires the pilot cities and zones to take the construction of such projects as a key driver in promoting the green transformation of the local economy and society, and to scientifically formulate pilot implementation plans based on their own circumstances.
The commission will coordinate existing funding channels to support eligible pilot projects.
Financial institutions are encouraged to support the construction of carbon peak pilot cities and zones, and to use a combination of green credits, green bonds, green funds, and other financial tools to increase support for relevant green and low-carbon projects in a market-oriented manner.
