The State Key Laboratory of Coal Science and Technology at Taiyuan University of Technology in Taiyuan city has recently been recognized as a State Key Laboratory of Clean and Efficient Utilization of Coal-based Energy by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The recognition marks a significant breakthrough in the university's construction of a national scientific research platform. 

First established in 1985, the lab was approved among the first batch of key laboratories in Shanxi province in 1997.

The lab's achievements in coal science research rank 10th globally, and it is one of the five most active research institutions in international coal chemical research. 

Following the relevant requirements for constructing a national key laboratory, the lab will next strengthen talent team building, improve experimental facilities, further cooperation, enhance the level of scientific research and establish a sound operation and management mechanism.
