Fenghuo Liuxing is a folk performance art integrating acrobatics and Chinese martial arts that is often staged during Spring Festival celebrations. 

Fenghuo Liuxing is usually staged at night. Each performer has a rope with two cages tied to its ends, and each container is filled with burning charcoal. The entertainers then spin their ropes in the air to create fiery images and patterns. Interestingly, Fenghuo Liuxing can be done while performers are standing, walking, sitting, lying down and even rolling.

Much like martial arts, Fenghuo Liuxing routines utilize small gongs and drums, and performers change their movements based on the accompanying instrument.

It is an exciting local folk culture, and its rescue and protection will enrich the cultural offerings of Taiyuan city and promote the development of folk festival celebrations.
