As a major player in Shanxi's manufacturing industry, Taiyuan Heavy Machinery Group aims to speed up its innovation in economic transformation and achieve high-quality development amid the upcoming challenges and opportunities in the new era.
The annual Central Economic Work Conference held in December last year viewed the high-quality development of manufacturing, especially equipment manufacturing and high-end manufacturing, as one of the key priorities for China to boost its real economy in 2019. The manufacturing industry plays a vital role in the prosperity of the country's real economy and technological innovation.
Taiyuan Heavy Machinery Group has a pioneering spirit in boosting the nation's economy by developing high-end manufacturing including rail transit, new energy, marine equipment, construction machinery and qualified hydraulic products. The revenue from the upgraded products has accounted for 40 percent of the total, according to the company.
Taiyuan Heavy Machinery's rail transit products have passed the R&D and quality standards for high-speed train, urban rail and full spectrum gear, shaft and gear box.
In the new energy sector, the company is capable of producing a series of larger machines and speed increaser products applied in offshore wind power. Its 8-megawatt fan has signed cooperative agreement with China Three Gorges Corp.
For marine equipment, the company has successfully put its self-developed 400-foot drilling platform into the sea. The high-end hydraulic products include high-end plunger pump, piston motors and high-pressure valves.
Meanwhile, the company has developed the world's largest 75 cubic-meter mining excavator, 520-ton cast crane, 1,300-ton bridge crane, 6,400-ton hydraulic duplex crane as well as advanced controlling systems for intelligent cranes.
Taking innovation as key
Last year, the company developed 70 new products, carried out 10 national and industry standards and granted 93 national patents.
"During the research and development process, we not only focus on technological breakthroughs but also the exploration of basic data and details," said Xiao Limin, director of the innovation department of the company.
"We should return to the essence of design and prioritize improving user experience," he added.
Xiao said that the company is applying the 3D parametric design to improve efficiency and cut cost as the method will speed up the generation and modification of models.
This year, the company will take full advantage of the nation's key labs and other innovative platforms, and strengthen the R&D and application of basic theories such as the reliability of the products and intelligent controlling system.
By expanding the current cloud computing platforms, the company also plans to provide high-quality services and feasible solutions for the remote operations and maintenance in an effort to transform itself from a manufacturer to a service provider.
Wang Chuangmin, Party secretary and chairman of the company, said that the company views key technology as a priority for high-quality development. "We will continue to improve the efficiency through refined management ranging from design, purchasing, production and collaboration."
After 40 years' of reform and opening-up, China has become a world-renowned country for manufacturing.
