The "Shanxi Intangible Cultural Heritage Enters the United Nations" cultural exchange and thematic promotion event will take place at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, on Sept 25.
The Shanxi delegation will showcase a variety of unique intangible cultural heritage (ICH) skills and creative cultural products on this prestigious international diplomatic platform, sharing Chinese culture and Shanxi's rich stories with a global audience.
The event serves as a key cultural component of the National Day reception hosted by the Chinese Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva, celebrating the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
It will gather UN officials, diplomats from various countries, international organization leaders, and media representatives from around the world, showcasing Shanxi’s cultural charm and openness to the global diplomatic community.
At the exhibition, Shanxi will feature three core ICH projects: Jiexiu glazed pottery, Datong knot art, and Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534) tea delicacies. Additionally, a range of diverse heritage items such as Pingyao lacquerware, Shanxi paper-cutting, and Chengni inkstone will be displayed, offering a comprehensive view of Shanxi's unique cultural heritage.
Several distinguished inheritors of these traditions will be present, engaging in live demonstrations and face-to-face interactions with international guests. This immersive experience will allow overseas audiences to appreciate the intricate craftsmanship and cultural significance of Shanxi's intangible heritage.
The event will also include screenings of original works by the Shanxi International Communication Center, such as Spokesperson for Ancient Buildings and World Youth Meet Ancient Chinese Architecture. These productions will provide an international perspective on Shanxi's architectural heritage, helping global audiences understand Shanxi's profound cultural depth and robust cultural tourism.
