The convoy of "Hello! China" French Vintage Car on the Silk Road Journey activity arrived in the Ancient City of Pingyao, Shanxi province, on Aug 28. Around 80 drivers from France, Belgium, Switzerland, and other countries experienced the unique charm of this UNESCO World Heritage site firsthand.

During their visit, participants climbed the ancient city walls, sampled traditional heritage foods, witnessed traditional intangible cultural heritage crafts, and admired exquisite lacquerware, gaining a deep appreciation for the enduring power of traditional craftsmanship.

Shi Baoying, head of the Chinese organizers for the French Vintage Car on the Silk Road Journey, said the event took two years to prepare and features 35 vintage cars, each over 45 years old.

He emphasized that the Silk Road symbolizes trade and cultural exchange. The choice of Pingyao highlights its significant role in ancient financial history, offering profound historical value to both Chinese and international visitors.

"We hope that by visiting Pingyao with the vintage cars, the drivers will share their experiences with friends and family, promoting this ancient city to more people across Europe and the world," he added.

The convoy began its journey in France on July 12, traversing 10 countries across Europe and Asia, retracing the ancient Silk Road over a distance of approximately 15,000 kilometers.

After entering China, the convoy has traveled east along the historic Silk Road, passing through cultural landmarks such as Hami, Dunhuang, Jiayuguan, and Xi'an, and is scheduled to reach Beijing on Aug 31, covering about 5,700 km within China.

A French driver shared his excitement: "Visiting this ancient city with over 2,000 years of history is thrilling. Since entering China, we've seen many cities, but Pingyao is an unforgettable highlight."
