The 2026 Taiyuan Energy Low-Carbon Development Forum (TELC) is set to take place from Sept 4 to 5 in Taiyuan, Shanxi province, marking the 10th anniversary of this influential event. This year's theme, "Dual Carbon Goals Leading Energy Transition, Innovation Accelerating a Green Future", underscores the forum's commitment to sustainable energy development.

Since its inception in 2016, the TELC forum has evolved from a purely academic conference into a comprehensive national energy platform that now encompasses high-level dialogues, technology showcases, industry investment opportunities, outcome announcements, and international cooperation.

The forum has played a pivotal role in both driving and witnessing Shanxi's energy transition. Over the past decade, it has aligned with the province's efforts to deepen the energy revolution and promote the transformation and high-quality development of resource-based economies.

By 2025, Shanxi's installed capacity for new and clean energy reached 90.48 million kilowatts, accounting for 55.1 percent of total power capacity and surpassing coal power for the first time. The province's green electricity trading volume hit 10 billion kilowatt-hours, ranking among the top nationwide, further greening its energy structure.

Shanxi has led energy industry reform through technological innovation, establishing over 100 national platforms, provincial laboratories, key laboratories, and technology innovation centers, with breakthroughs in critical technologies effectively driving the high-end transformation of the energy industrial chain.

The province has also promoted a green, low-carbon lifestyle across society, with clean energy buses and taxis now accounting for 99 percent and 98 percent of the fleet, respectively, making carbon reduction a widespread provincial practice.
