Shanxi accounts for one-third of China's coal production in Jan-Aug
According to the Shanxi Provincial Bureau of Statistics, North China's Shanxi province's above-designated-size coal production in the first eight months reached 813.22 million metric tons, accounting for approximately 26.6 percent of the national output during the same period.
As a major energy province in China, Shanxi held around 48.3 billion tons of coal reserves by the end of 2022, as per the Ministry of Natural Resources' "China Mineral Resources Report (2023)".
In recent years, Shanxi has been pushing forward economic transformation and upgrading efforts, focusing on enhancing the coal energy industrial chain to ensure national energy security. By the end of 2023, intelligent transformation projects for coal mines with an annual capacity of over 1.8 million tons had commenced, while 118 intelligent coal mines and 1,491 intelligent mining faces were completed.
The current emphasis on intelligent construction in Shanxi's coal mines has shifted from mining faces to comprehensive mine intelligence. By 2025, all large and high-risk coal mines in the province will undergo complete intelligent upgrades.
In 2023, Shanxi's total coal production reached 1.38 billion tons. According to the "2024 Shanxi Coal Stable Production and Supply Plan", this year, Shanxi aims to maintain coal production at around 1.3 billion tons while ensuring safe production.
