Taiyuan sees achievements in green economic transformation

In recent years, Taiyuan, capital city of North China's Shanxi province, has adhered to the new energy security strategy of "Four Revolutions, One Cooperation", transforming its economic and social development and achieving significant progress in green transformation.

As the capital city, Taiyuan has played a leading role in optimizing its energy structure and accelerating the creation of a diversified green energy supply system. By the end of 2023, the city completed the intelligent transformation of five coal mines, with advanced coal mine capacity reaching 88.66 percent.

Taiyuan has also developed the photovoltaic industry chain, constructing the Jinko Solar vertical integration base with a total investment of approximately 56 billion yuan ($7.90 billion). The first phase of this project has already been put into operation. The city has also made breakthroughs in key energy technologies, including graphene and capacitor carbon, achieving multiple international research advancements. It is identified as one of the 25 national carbon peak pilot cities.

From 2021 to 2023, Taiyuan implemented green building initiatives, completing energy-saving renovations for 19.6 million square meters of existing residential buildings and adding 8.04 million sq m of new green buildings. Taiyuan has also promoted green transportation, achieving 100 percent green public buses and converting 8,292 taxis to pure electric, making it the world's first city with a fully electric taxi fleet.

By actively leading the comprehensive energy reform, Taiyuan not only promotes the green transformation of the energy industry but also drives the upgrade of related industries, injecting new vitality into the city's economic development.
