As of June 2024, North China's Shanxi province had completed 7,736 "Free Shows to the Countryside" performances. This initiative not only promotes outstanding traditional culture and brings culture to the masses, but also stimulates the enthusiasm and vitality of artistic troupes, leading to both social and economic benefits.

The "Free Shows to the Countryside" public welfare project is an important measure taken by Shanxi to enhance the cultural well-being of the people and bring quality culture down to the local level. Since its inclusion in the provincial government's livelihood project in 2017, more than 120,000 public welfare performances have been held, continuously enriching the spiritual and cultural lives of the masses in rural areas.

To further implement the livelihood project, the Shanxi Provincial Department of Finance and the Culture and Tourism Department of Shanxi Province have jointly issued the "Implementation Plan for Shanxi Province's Free Shows to the Countryside Public Welfare Project in 2024".

The plan outlines a total of 10,000 performances throughout the year, with a total budget of 125 million yuan ($17.19 million) allocated by the provincial and local governments. This substantial support encourages cultural and tourism departments to prioritize the needs of the people and purchase performances from qualified artistic troupes.
