North China's Shanxi province recently jointly issued the "Declaration on the Protection of Cultural Heritage amid Climate Change", calling on the whole of society to pay close attention to the profound impact of climate change on Shanxi's cultural heritage.
The declaration points out that in the context of climate change, the continuously rising temperature and wind and rain erosion have impacted on the precious cultural heritages of Shanxi. Strengthening the protection of cultural heritage is not only crucial for social progress and cultural development, but also a responsibility for contemporary society.
Such being the case, it calls for the whole of society to actively participate in volunteer activities, public lectures, and exhibition salons related to cultural heritage protection and to practice low-carbon and green lifestyles when it comes to travel, energy and other forms of consumption, and recycling.
Furthermore, people are also encouraged to immediately report to relevant departments when safety hazards exacerbated by climate change are found around cultural heritages, so as to reduce or prevent potential damages. Different publicity channels, including social media and thematic lectures, are also recommended to be used to make more people get aware of the impact of climate change on cultural heritages.
Meanwhile, people are encouraged to support relevant departments in coping with climate change and protecting cultural heritages as well as to provide opinions on policy formulation and suggestions for cultural heritage protection amid climate change.
