The Shanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeological Research released the archeological discoveries found in a tomb from the Jin Dynasty (1115-1234) in Xiangyuan county, North China's Shanxi province, on April 18.

In 2018, Xiangyuan County Wanpu Water Purification Materials Co found an ancient tomb during the construction of its factory, and after reporting it to the cultural relics department, the tomb was excavated by the institute.

Through epitaphs, it was confirmed that the tomb was built in 1177. And 21 burial artifacts, including porcelain, pottery and ironware, were unearthed.

The brick tomb has a square wooden dome structure, and includes a main burial chamber and nine cave chambers. The interior architectural paintings are relatively well preserved, and the character murals are still vivid and exquisite, showcasing the local folk customs during that period.

Yang Liu, the person in charge of the archaeological project, said that the tomb is a rare physical source for the study of Jin Dynasty architecture. It is of great significance to the study of funeral etiquette, ancient folk customs in general, and the specific ancient folk customs for the area in and around Changzhi city.
