Updated: 2023-03-23
North China's Shanxi province's 69 villages were recently included in the sixth list of national traditional villages announced by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.
In 2012, the ministry, together with other national government departments, launched a survey of traditional villages. As of 2022, 8,155 traditional villages have been included in the national protection list, including 619 in Shanxi.
According to the requirements of the ministry, Shanxi should establish and improve archives of traditional Chinese villages, help traditional villages included in the list to formulate protection and utilization plans or programs, clarify the scope, focus and requirements of protection, strengthen the protection and development of traditional villages, and carry forward traditional Chinese culture.
