Shanxi to extend Great Wall No 1 Tourist Highway

North China's Shanxi province will invest 1.82 billion yuan ($266.56 million) into building 650 kilometers of the Great Wall No 1 Tourist Highway this year.
According to the province's overall plan, the highway highlights the border landscapes, ancient sections of the Great Wall, and ancient military facilities along the Great Wall.
With a total investment of 20.7 billion yuan and a planned length of 3,817 km, the highway runs through 28 counties, county-level cities and districts in Datong, Shuozhou and Xinzhou. Also to be constructed are 360 km of jogging paths, post stations, recreational vehicle camping sites, and sightseeing platforms.
As of 2022, construction on 2,223 km of the highway was completed, accounting for 58 percent of the total plan. Additionally, the main line of the highway has been connected; 128 km of jogging paths, 18 post stations, eight RV camping sites, and 12 sightseeing platforms were built; 1,512 communications base stations were built along the highway, and the network coverage rate reached 75 percent.
This year, Shanxi will focus on promoting the construction of branch and connecting roads of the highway, renovating or newly building 905 communications base stations, and constructing 50 km of jogging paths, four post stations, six RV camping sites, and 10 sightseeing platforms.
