The 2022 Shanxi Energy Efficiency Promotion Week to raise public awareness of energy efficiency and promote green lifestyles is underway in North China's Shanxi province on June 13-19.

The week-long energy-saving campaign has been staging exhibitions on energy conservation achievements, new products and technologies, video displays of energy-saving information and low-carbon lifestyles to call on more people to participate in energy conservation and carbon reduction.

In recent years, Shanxi has achieved strong results in energy conservation and consumption reduction in the whole province through measures such as improving working and policy systems, promoting energy-saving technological transformation, and strengthening the energy conservation of key enterprises.

In 2021, the province saw a 9.1 percent increase in GDP with an energy consumption growth rate of 3.2 percent, making remarkable progress in energy conservation and carbon reduction.

Energy-saving renovation actions in key industries such as iron and steel, chemicals, coking, non-ferrous metals, building materials, and manufacturing have been carried out as well. 

The proportion of eco-friendly and energy-saving buildings in the province's new construction area increased from 12 percent in 2016 to 74 percent in 2020. 

In addition, Shanxi has accelerated the pace of replacement of new or clean energy vehicles, and green travel has become a priority for more people.

By the end of 2020, all 10,095 buses and 25,051 taxis in the built-up areas of 11 cities in the province had been replaced with new or clean energy vehicles.

Furthermore, the cities of Taiyuan, Datong, Yangquan, Jincheng, and Linfen have accelerated the optimization of public transportation services.

In the future, Shanxi will continue publicity and education efforts related to energy conservation and carbon reduction, advocate green and low-carbon production and lifestyles, and accelerate comprehensive green economic and social transformation.
