North China's Shanxi province has expanded its transport infrastructure to alleviate poverty, with 7,993 poor villages in the province getting access to hardened roads.
During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), Shanxi has constructed and improved 30,500 kilometers of rural roads in poverty-stricken areas, with the total mileage of hardened roads in poor areas reaching 63,500 km.
A safe, convenient and connected road network has also been established, establishing a sound foundation for rural poverty alleviation and revitalization.
In the future, the province will undertake more of these projects in villages, as well as establish a long-term mechanism that will target poverty alleviation via road and transport infrastructure construction.
