Yuncheng city, the largest wheat-producing region in southern Shanxi province in North China, has been increasing its financial input to improve its grain planting and production capacity.
In local Xinjiang county, members of the Zhenliang Grain Planting Professional Cooperative have recently been bustling about with preparations for the wheat harvest and corn cultivation.
"The average wheat yield of our base is expected to exceed 450 kilograms per mu (0.07 hectare), an increase of about 5 percent over the last year," said Chao Zhenliang, chairman of the cooperative.

Despite the decline in the wheat planting area, the wheat yield and total output is increasing due to agricultural infrastructure improvements and the application of new technologies, according to the Yuncheng agriculture and rural affairs bureau.
By developing high-standard farmlands, implementing irrigation and drainage projects, introducing water-saving pipes and constructing field roads, the city has improved its agricultural infrastructure year by year.
Meantime, it has brought in and promoted new agricultural technologies, to enhance the soil quality and help increase grain production.
As a result, the local wheat harvest area this year is 268,200 hectares and the grain production capacity is greatly improved.
