Founded in 1907, Shanxi Agricultural University is one of China's key agricultural institutions, about one hour's drive from Taiyuan, capital of northern Shanxi province.

The campus covers an area of over 149 hectares, with a green area of 60 hectares, and has completely preserved the buildings from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) to the Republic of China period (1912-1949). 

By the end of November 2018, Shanxi Agricultural University had 24,518 full-time students and more than 1,700 faculty members, including 1,086 full-time teachers. 

The university has abundant education resources with more than 1.8 million paper books, over 800 types of printed periodicals and nearly 3 million electronic books, which provide a great platform for the learning, living and academic and cultural exchange activities of its teachers and students.

The campus comprises 16 colleges, including the College of Agriculture, College of Forestry, College of Animal Science and Technology, College of Resources and Environment and College of Food Engineering, which provide undergraduate education in 63 majors and postgraduate and doctoral education.

The university has competitive advantages over peers in a dozen research fields such as miscellaneous grains, edible fungi, cattle, alpaca, grassland ecology, environmental veterinary medicine, greenhouse vegetables, modern agricultural equipment and vinegar -- having developed more than 900 related scientific and technological achievements since 2011.

It has also been promoting rural revitalization in Shanxi province, by carrying out technical services to over 90 counties and districts in 11 cities across the province -- and some 100 technical service teams of the university have been active in the frontline of agricultural production. 

Meanwhile, the university has promoted more than 80 new varieties of farm produce and 161 advanced agricultural technologies, both within the province and in some 10 surrounding provinces, which has created significant socioeconomic benefits. 

Leveraging its achievements in the agricultural sciences, the university has trained 300,000 agricultural professionals including government management officials, technicians and entrepreneurs since 2016. 

The university is always promoting foreign cooperation and communications. It has a more than century-old partnership with Oberlin College in the United States and has exchange visit programs with more than 10 universities overseas -- including Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Germany, Massey University in New Zealand and Auckland University of Technology. Students from countries including Iran, India and Pakistan have gone to the university to study.
