The Yiyuan apple, or Yiyuanhong apple, was selected and developed from bud mutations of the Yantai apple -- or Hongfushi apple -- since 1994. It obtained a provincial certificate for scientific and technological achievements in 2012 and was officially approved as a new variety of apple in September 2013.
