The Haixi Bay Ship and Marine Engineering Industrial Base in Qingdao West Coast New Area (Qingdao WCNA) is drawing global attention as it solidifies its status as a world-class maritime hub.
Recognized as a premier national export base and a model for new-type industrialization, the cluster has become a comprehensive ecosystem focused on shipbuilding, marine engineering, and advanced R&D.
Haixi Bay has originated several engineering feats, consistently achieving new heights in manufacturing. Notable accomplishments include the world's first deep-sea aquaculture vessel, domestically developed deep-sea wind power platforms, and ammonia-fuel-ready ultra-large crude carriers.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–25) period, Qingdao WCNA's ship and marine engineering equipment industry was officially designated as a national advanced manufacturing cluster.
Bolstered by a robust industrial system, efficient services, and strong policy support, the base continues to attract high-end global clients. Currently, orders for key enterprises are already secured through 2030. Additionally, the base is shifting towards sustainability, with green ship products now targeting a market share of over 90 percent, marking a significant advance in high-end manufacturing capabilities.
Starting 2026 with strong momentum, CSSC Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding has secured a series of major international contracts. Looking ahead, Qingdao WCNA plans to further strengthen its marine equipment manufacturing advantages while expanding into emerging maritime industries, ensuring the area remains a vital driver of China's modern blue economy.
