Qingdao West Coast New Area launches first coastal rowing sprint

Qingdao West Coast New Area hosted the inaugural Qingdao Coastal Rowing Sprint on Sept 7, which drew 12 rowing teams from across the city to the scenic Tangdao Bay National Wetland Park.

The competition consisted of a dynamic 600-meter coastal sprint with three competitive categories: mixed four-person double sculls with coxswain, men's single sculls, and women's single sculls.

After an intense battle on the water, the Qingxi Education and Sports Rowing Team emerged victorious in the mixed four-person double sculls with coxswain event. In the men's single sculls, Wu Yushuo from the Northern Timber Rowing Team claimed the top spot, while Zheng Yuting of the Jianglaishen Diving Team won the women's single sculls category.

Coastal rowing has surged in popularity among rowers in recent years, offering a more challenging and spectator-friendly alternative to traditional still-water rowing. The sport demands greater physical fitness and technical proficiency, adding an element of excitement and engagement for both participants and viewers.
