24 Solar Terms: Grain in Ear

The ninth of the 24 solar terms, Mangzhong, or Grain in Ear, falls on June 5 this year, and its arrival also signifies the beginning of midsummer.

In southern China, the rise of temperature and humidity ushers in the meiyu ("plum rain") season. During this time, people are advised to go to sleep late, get up early and nap if possible. A light diet is suggested.
