chinadaily.com.cn| Updated: December 29, 2023

The Qingdao West Coast New Area (Qingdao WCNA) has since its inception been dedicated to developing the ocean economy and becoming a strategic hub for the maritime industry.

This national-level area focuses on promoting ocean science and technology with the help of universities, research institutions and leading companies.

The Guzhenkou Marine Science and Technology Innovation Zone, in Qingdao WCNA, coordinates the operations of 12 research vessels. Public service facilities like the science and technology museum and science lectures hall have been constructed to facilitate the sharing of marine education and scientific research resources.

The Qingdao WCNA is presently home to the largest marine discipline group in China and has 21 universities and research institutions, including prestigious ones like the College of Marine Sciences University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ocean University of China, and China University of Petroleum (East China).

The zone is also nurturing over 71,000 marine talents through its 170 marine innovation platforms.

To bridge the gap between scientific research and industry, Qingdao WCNA has established working committees that coordinate ocean science and technology resources and accelerate marine scientific and technological innovation.
