The Qingdao West Coast New Area (WCNA) achieved 41 scientific and technological achievements in the Qingdao Science and Technology Awards in 2022, representing 34 percent of the total awards in the city.
Out of the 41 achievements received by the WCNA, there were four awards in the field of natural science, one award for technological invention, and 36 awards for scientific and technological progress. These achievements accounted for 40 percent, 33 percent and 34 percent in the city, respectively.
Twelve achievements were made independently by enterprises in the new area, accounting for 29 percent of the total awards it received, reflecting an improvement in the independent innovation abilities of enterprises.
In the laser display field, a project has disrupted the dominance of foreign enterprises in major display technologies. It has propelled China's display industry from being focused on scale to being focused on technology, and has led to the emergence of national brands.
In addition, 53.7 percent of the total number of awards were achieved through collaborations between enterprises and research institutes.
In recent years, the Qingdao WCNA has built innovative platforms and fostered technological innovation. Next, the local government will make efforts to promote key technology research and expand channels for monetizing achievements.
