Qingdao WCNA shines as top performer in high-quality development

Qingdao West Coast New Area (Qingdao WCNA), a district of Qingdao, has been recognized as a model of high-quality development in China, ranking 14th on the 2023 High-Quality Development of Chinese Districts list. This made it the top-performing district among the 17 Shandong province units selected for recognition.

Based on the theme of "Chinese-style modernization and high-quality development of districts", the report highlights the critical role of districts as hubs for development factors and innovation-driven core engines for transformative growth.

To advance high-quality development, the area launched a series of "13 Major Innovative Breakthrough Actions" in 2023, targeting areas like national strategy, the real economy, and education through 52 key projects. These initiatives have generated new momentum and unique advantages for the area's growth.

The area's gross domestic product (GDP) reached 110.6 billion yuan ($15.75 billion) in the first quarter of this year, a year-on-year increase of 5.8 percent, accounting for 31.6 percent of Qingdao's total. Moreover, the area has continued to outshine its regional peers, winning the "Grab the Stars and Seize the Flag" examination for the fifth consecutive quarter.

Looking ahead, the area will continue to strengthen its aggregation of development factors, solidifying its role as an innovation-driven core engine for transformative growth.
