Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau Tak-wah held his online live concert on Douyin on Sept 3 at the Oriental Movie Metropolis in Qingdao West Coast New Area (Qingdao WCNA), receiving a record 350 million viewers, which helped promote Qingdao WCNA on the internet.
After more than 40 years of performing in the music, TV and film industries, Lau has forged a deep friendship with the Oriental Movie Metropolis, which is where many of his movies were produced.
Qingdao Oriental Movie Metropolis, one of the largest film studio complexes in the world, is located in Qingdao WCNA. Over the past five years, more than 200 high-quality film and television works have been shot there. The Oriental Movie Metropolis completed construction in 2018 and now boasts 40 international standard studios that helped create blockbuster movies such as The Wandering Earth, A Writer's Odyssey, and Moon Man.
The goal of the Qingdao government is to make the city one of the biggest and busiest film production hubs in China. The government has designated the film and television industry as one of the engines to boost economic growth.
"Shandong has rolled out a slew of supportive measures related to the film and TV industry. Over years of development, Qingdao has fostered unique advantages such as location, film and TV policies, and co-production services," said Dai Ying, vice-president of online video platform iQiyi.
