Qingdao's Lingshan Bay was recently selected as one of Shandong province's 100 typical cases for promoting ecological protection and high-quality development.

Lingshan Bay, with a sea area of 60 square kilometers and a coastline of 30 kilometers, is a bright pearl on the coastline of the Qingdao West Coast New Area. It was included in the first batch of beautiful bays in China in January.

In recent years, Qingdao West Coast New Area has established a system for coordinated ecological and environmental governance on land and sea, and has enhanced marine ecological protection.

Local government has set up China's first smart ocean management platform and ocean big data center, introduced a bay-chief system, and piloted a bay management information system.

The ecological protection efforts have turned Lingshan Bay into a scenic bay with clear waters and clean beaches, a paradise for fish and gulls, and a model of beautiful bays where humanity and nature harmoniously co-exist.

According to local statistics, Lingshan Bay has added 248,000 square meters of green areas along the coastline and now boasts four national-level marine ranch demonstration areas. Lingshan Island, which is located in Lingshan Bay, now has a forest coverage rate of 80 percent, which is greatly enhancing the carbon absorption capacity of the bay.
