Main scenic areas in Qingdao West Coast New Area (Qingdao WCNA) in Shandong province received around 128,000 tourists over the recently concluded Dragon Boat Festival holiday that lasted from June 3 to 5, according to official statistics.

The figure is roughly equal to the same period last year, indicating that the local tourism market saw recovery after authorities fine-tuned COVID-19 containment measures for travel against the backdrop of a stabilizing epidemic situation nationwide.

During the three-day holiday, four free scenic areas in Qingdao WCNA, including Qingdao Dazhu Mountain Scenic Area, Qingdao Zhushan National Forest Park, Qingdao Langyatai Scenic Area, and Qingdao Forest Wildlife World, launched a number of boutique tourist routes, and received a total of 55,000 tourists, a year-on-year increase of 293 percent.

Among them, Qingdao Forest Wildlife World and Qingdao Zhushan National Forest Park were ranked in the top 10 popular scenic areas in Shandong province over the holiday break.

Short- and medium-distance self-driving tours remained popular among citizens during the holiday. Ten boutique tourist routes released by Qingdao WCNA's culture and tourism bureau were widely welcomed by self-driving travel enthusiasts. There were also a large number of rural tourists, campers and mountain climbers over the holiday.

Many culture and tourism venues in Qingdao WCNA rolled out discounted tickets and hosted special activities such as celebrations and festivities to attract visitors, which also contributed to the recovery of the local tourism market.
