Geography

Wenshang county, historically known as Zhongdu, is located in the northernmost part of Jining city.

Administrative divisions

The county consists of 12 towns – Kangyi, Nanwang, Yiqiao, Yuanzhuang, Baishi, Juntun, Yangdian, Guocang, Guolou, Yinsi, Ciqiu, Liulou – three subdistricts – Zhongdu, Wenshang and Nanzhan – and one provincial economic development zone.

Culture and history

Wenshang county has a rich cultural heritage, with Confucianism, Buddhism and canal culture being its major influences. It is one of the birthplaces of the Beixin and Dawenkou cultures. In 501 BC, Confucius first served as a local official in Zhongdu, and his political achievements were so outstanding that he was emulated by all sides.

Natural resources

Wenshang county has rich natural resources. There are 3 billion tons of coal reserves, of which 1.8 billion metric tons can be mined. It has iron ore reserves of nearly 100 million tons and granite reserves of 1.3 billion cubic meters.

Economy

The county's GDP hit 28.25 billion yuan($3.9 billion) in 2023, an increase of 6.9 percent.
