In September 2025, Dongying's installed renewable energy capacity reached 10.02 million kilowatts, making it the fifth city in East China's Shandong province to surpass the 10 million kilowatts.

Renewable energy now accounts for 67.3 percent of the city's total installed power, marking a key milestone in its transformation from a traditional oil hub into a green energy stronghold.

The strategic plans published by Dongying have guided the city's vision of integrated wind-solar development, fishery-solar complementarity, and multi-industry synergy.

Dongying has accelerated key renewable energy projects through innovative coordination mechanisms. Several initiatives set national records by completing planning, approval, construction, and grid connection within the same year. Large-scale solar-plus-storage and offshore photovoltaic projects further highlight the city's rapid expansion in green energy.

Dongying's offshore wind equipment park hosts dozens of major projects, forming a full chain of research and development, manufacturing, and testing. With the help of CATL, the city is establishing a green lithium battery cluster with an annual output exceeding 100 billion yuan ($14.04 billion).

From oil to green, Dongying's renewable energy leap and booming new energy industry set a national example for resource-based cities pursuing low-carbon development.
