Gazing up from the foot of Yishan Mountain in Linqu county, Weifang, one is greeted by a vista of verdant greenery, with a diverse array of towering trees blanketing the entire mountainside. The mountain is renowned for its abundant vegetation, providing an ideal habitat for a myriad of insects to thrive. These insects, in turn, serve as a vital food source for higher-order vertebrates in the food chain.

Since the initiation of large-scale afforestation efforts in 1948, Yishan Mountain has undergone over half a century of restoration and protection, gradually becoming adorned in a thick mantle of greenery. Today, it stands as one of the most well-forested areas in Shandong.

To improve ecological environment, more than just conventional methods such as afforestation have been used, with technology being embraced to the fullest extent. Weifang has established a water quality toxicity bio-early warning monitoring system in key surface water drinking water sources and important rivers. This system aims to identify potential pollution risks, addressing the shortcomings of traditional monitoring methods.

In the 1990s, Baiquanyu village in Linyi began mining minerals. However, by 2005, recognizing the unsustainable nature of this path, the village resolutely halted mining operations. Instead, it embarked on a journey to enhance its ecological environment and infrastructure, transforming former mining pits into tourist resort areas and fostering the development of agritourism and homestays.

Today, visitors to Baiquanyu village are greeted by the gentle murmur of crystal-clear springs, the shade cast by ancient trees, and rows of homestays nestled against the mountainside.
