Egg carving, a folk handicraft that has seen a major revival in recent years, involves delicately carving intricate patterns onto thin and fragile eggshells.

Egg carving crafts come in various forms. One method involves using a carving knife to etch various figures, landscapes, flowers, and birds onto the surface of darker-colored eggshells. Another technique involves selecting thicker eggshells as material and carving them using shallow relief or hollowing methods. A combination of these two methods is used to create more intricate pieces.

In the hands of Yan Chunlai, a craftsman from Huaiyin district, Jinan, delicate eggshells are transformed into meticulously carved works of art. These decorated eggshells become vessels for depicting vast landscapes, flora, fauna, and intricate designs.
