Jinan New Material Industrial Park has transformed from a chemical industrial park to a cluster of new materials industry over the past ten years, moving towards the path of new-type industrialization and advancement. 

The park, situated on the north side of the Yellow River, plays the role of a bridgehead in the city's strategy of developing northward. 

Since 2011, the park started to improve its infrastructure and gave top priority towards attracting leading research institutes and investors in the emerging industries of new materials and smart manufacturing.

It formed a strategic cooperation with Shandong University and established the National Engineering Research Center for Colloidal Materials on April 14, 2011.

According to the park, institutes such as Shandong Academy of Sciences, Shandong Normal University as well as University of Jinan have established cooperation with the enterprises in the park to put their research achievements into application. 

To help the transformation of scientific researches, the park has provided 4 million yuan every year to support the major projects in the area. 

The park plans to push forward the reform of replacing old growth engines with new ones for quality development by introducing increasing numbers of large programs to settle down in the area.

According to the park, the fixed-asset investment is expected to reach 7 billion yuan ($1.02 billion) and the output value of industries above designated size will be increased to 2.31 billion yuan in 2018.  

As of August, the park has signed 21 programs, including four foreign-funded programs, with total investment valued 1.8 billion dollars.
