The strategic plan for rural revitalization recently announced by Shandong province proposes to create a unified layout of production, ecology, and living, and to develop the Shandong rural areas into having robust industrial strength, excellent ecological beauty, and a good home life for its citizens.

Garbage piles, flies and mosquitos, lack of heating and gas, ect, all these lingering problems of rural areas are gradually disappearing in Shandong. This year, Shandong implemented a three-year rural environmental improvement campaign in the province. The campaign seeks to make up for the shortfalls and accelerate the construction of scenic villages by focusing on the improvement of garbage and water waste treatment, toilet renovation, and that of the village appearance.

Thanks to the current practice of the concept of "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets", an increasing amount of Shandong villages are in for a makeover.

In the village of Yuquanwa, Fangzi district, Weifang city, the villagers compartmentalize living and production by planning the construction of fruit and vegetable growing areas, viewing fishing areas, farming culture gardens, and tourists dining centers.

Liu Xiangdong, secretary of the Party branch of the village, said that the village construction was relatively messy in the past. Now that there is an industrial planning and construction plan, it is easier for the villagers to increase their income and live their lives more comfortably. 

The village of Shiziliu used to be an ordinary village in Binzhou. Nowadays, the characteristics of residential houses in northwestern Shandong are salient and the environment clean and tidy. The combination of unique natural scenery and rural style not only enriches the urbanites' leisure lives, but also bulges the pockets of farmers in the village.

The revitalization of the countryside entails not only reshaping of the looks, but also that of the soul. In Shandong, a number of field ditties, and folk arts and modern art performances have all been invited taking place. Displayed in the farmer's book houses are books on science, technology and history, in which people can now savor "cultural meals" without leaving the village.

According to the plan, by 2022, Shandong province is to make an important breakthrough in the construction of ecologically livable and beautiful countryside in the province. By 2030, Shandong is to have reshaped the countryside with its own traditional features that are unique to the province. By 2035, the province’s "Qilu flavored painting for rural areas" will be completed, and all villages will fully realize their dream of agricultural and rural modernization.
