Print PrintShandong is a coastal province with commensurate sea and land areas. In keeping with the laws of rural development, Shandong insists on the overall planning of the sea and the land and explores the appropriate paths for rural revitalization in light of the characteristics of coastal areas, plains, hills, beaches, and lakes.
Through the reform of the rural collective property rights system, Shandong has broken free from bottlenecks that restrict the revitalization of resources in rural areas, eliminated institutional barriers, and reinforced guarantees for "people", "land" and "money", conjuring new momentum for rural development.
In Shandong, technology has had a big effect on the development of modern agriculture. Technologies such as Internet of Things and intelligent control have profoundly changed the traditional planting model.
In the town of Shilai in Xintai city, the land is hilly and the soil is thin. The local farmers said, "a single hoe-strike is all that it takes for a spark." Through the introduction of industrial and commercial capital, more than 20,000 mu of land has been planted here to grow tea. Seniors who used to be left behind at home can now not only obtain rent but function as tea garden workers. The annual gross income of one mu of land was only around 800 yuan ($125); now it exceeds 10,000 yuan.
The village of Zhukou in Renhe town, Rongcheng city was once an ordinary fishing village in Shandong province, but is now thriving thanks to rural vitalization. Its share of wakame cultivation and fine processing is among the highest in the province. Zhu Yi, secretary of the Party committee of the Zhukou Group, said that the processing of wakame has created thousands of jobs and the whole village has enjoyed the value-added benefits of the "new six production".
Apart from fully tapping local resources, high-end talents and technology have also been introduced. A batch of villages with distinct industries and professions continue to emerge in the province.
A mobile phone and a computer is all that is needed to start a nation-wide business. At Wantou village, Jinqiu sub-district office, Boxing county, ingenious farmers plait straws and willows into various types of storage baskets with different styles serving different functions and sell them through e-commerce channels throughout the country. Over half of the more than 1,700 farmer households in the villages started their own online shop, earning collectively an annual income from straw and willow plaited products exceeding 300 million yuan.
The rapid that has taken place in the villages of Shandong can be traced from the foothills of Mount Tai to the shores of the Yellow Sea and the Bohai Sea, from farming in the fields to husbandry and fishery. It has helped the transition of Shandong's industrial structure from a singleton of agriculture to an integration of primary, secondary and tertiary industries, sketching for the "Qilu flavored painting in the country-wide dwellings in the Fushan Mountain".
