POWERCHINA signed a contract on Nov 6 for a 500-kilovolt transmission and distribution project in Chile in South America, with its subsidiary Shanghai Electric Power Construction Co to be the contractor.
The main construction will involve expansion of two substations and replacement of 44-kilometer double-circuit 500 kilovolt cables with carbon fiber.
After completion, it will effectively improve the capacity of the 500 kV backbone network for Chile's capital Santiago and improve the operations and management of the power transmission and transformation equipment.
The signing of the contract marked an important breakthrough made by Shanghai Electric Power Construction Co in the power transmission and transformer market in Chile, and established a solid foundation for POWERCHINA to expand further in the South American country.
