POWERCHINA signs promotion agreement for Kyaukpyu gas power station

The signing ceremony for the promotion agreement for Myanmar's Kyaukpyu gas power station project undertaken by POWERCHINA was held in Beijing on April 28, one day after the 2nd Belt &Road Forum for International Cooperation was concluded.

Sun Hongshui, general manager of POWERCHINA,U Win Khaing, Myanmar Minister of Electricity and Energy, U Thant Sin Maung, Myanmar Minister of Transport and Communication, Hong Liang, Chinese ambassador to Myanmar, and U Thit Linn Ohn, Myanmar ambassador to China, attended the ceremony.

U Win Khaing praised POWERCHINA for its expertise in the investment and construction of power projects in Myanmar, and welcomed the company to participate in Myanmar's infrastructure construction.

He said that POWERCHINA has been operating in Myanmar for more than 30 years. China and Myanmar are actively engaging in the construction of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) , which is a shared opportunity for the development of the two countries. He expressed hope that China and Myanmar would take the opportunity to elevate economic and trade cooperation to new heights.

On behalf of POWERCHINA, Sun expressed gratitude to the Chinese and Myanmar governments for their long-term interest and support for the company.

Sun said that Myanmar is an important pillar supporting BRI construction and has been a key market for POWERCHINA for many years. POWERCHINA possesses rich experience in the investment and construction of energy, electricity, transportation, and other infrastructure projects. The Chinese government, banks, and credit insurance institutions are very interested in and supportive of POWERCHINA's overseas business.

He promised that POWERCHINA would make full use of its advantages in the entire industry chain, invest in, and build the Kyaukpyu gas power station project at a high quality, making it a benchmark for the cooperation between China and Myanmar in the field of electric power.

The Kyaukpyu gas power station is an example of the opportunities provided by the Belt and Road construction. After completion, it will significantly improve the power supply situation in the area, alleviate power shortages, and provide great impetus for local economic and social development.
