Ordos in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region launched the trial operation of a new integrated energy demonstration project designed for new energy heavy-duty trucks on May 12, marking another step forward in the city's push toward greener transport and low-carbon energy development.

The "solar-storage-charging-battery swap" project is located in the city's Juungar Banner. It is the first integrated energy station for new energy heavy-duty trucks developed by the Inner Mongolia Power Group.

The first phase of the project includes 24 high-power direct current charging units with a total capacity of 11,520 kilowatts, capable of serving up to 300 electric heavy-duty trucks per day.

The station aims to eventually feature 96 ultra-fast charging parking spaces and two battery-swapping stations, compatible with major electric truck technologies currently on the market. The project plans to address key industry challenges such as slow charging and limited driving range for heavy-duty electric vehicles.

In addition to charging and battery-swapping services, the facility also provides parking, vehicle maintenance, dining, and accommodation services, creating a one-stop service hub for freight drivers.

Construction officially began in March and reached the trial operation stage within 70 days. The project is expected to enter full operation by the end of May.
