China's National People's Congress (NPC) screened a video marking the 40th anniversary of the NPC's affiliation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the 6th Interregional Seminar on the Achievements of the SDGs for Parliaments of Developing Countries at the 149th IPU Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, on Oct 17. More than 1,500 representatives from 156 countries watched the video on-site and responded with warm applause.
Tulia Ackson, IPU president and Tanzania's National Assembly speaker, and IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong extended congratulations to China and spoke highly of the cooperation that has developed between China and the IPU over the past four decades.
In August, China's NPC hosted commemorative events to mark the 40th anniversary of its affiliation to the IPU and held the 6th Interregional Seminar on the Achievements of the SDGs for Parliaments of Developing Countries.
Ackson and Chungong, as well as 19 parliamentary leaders and more than 140 parliamentarians from 32 developing countries attended the events and seminar in China.
