A team led by Hao Mingjin, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), recently visited East China's Fujian province to learn about the courts' handling of foreign-related cases and the procuratorial work concerning juveniles.

The team met with Yin Li, secretary of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and chairman of the Standing Committee of the Fujian Provincial People's Congress, and held a symposium with him during the survey.

While hailing the coastal province's achievements in the two areas, Hao called for efforts to respond to new situations and issues in the trial system for foreign-related cases, improve the efficiency and quality of proceedings, and modernize China’s governance system and capacity.

It's also important to rigorously enforce the Law on the Protection of Minors and the Law on the Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency, advance the procuratorial work concerning juveniles with a strong sense of responsibility, and explore innovative practices that can be replicated and advanced nationwide, according to Hao.

At the symposium, Yin said Fujian has strived to improve the handling of foreign-related cases, taking into consideration its unique conditions and a large number of overseas Chinese residents, and has also advanced the judicial protection of minors in a specialized and standardized way where more public participation is involved.

During the visit to cities of Fuzhou, Quanzhou and Zhangzhou, the team surveyed a circuit court specializing in cultural heritage protection and a procuratorate-led program to protect disadvantaged children.

The team also heard reports by courts and procuratorates at the provincial, municipal and county levels as well as comments and suggestions of lawmakers and experts.
