A creative competition revolving around the intangible cultural heritage of the Yellow River Basin commenced in Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, on June 29.

The event featured Ningxia's traditional folk instrumental ensemble pieces and Peking Opera performances, highlighting the enduring cultural richness of the Yellow River Basin that spans nine provinces including Qinghai, Gansu, and Shanxi.

Over 200 ICH artists, 133 ICH items, and a multitude of exquisite heritage pieces were showcased at the event. A total of 108 creative works, encompassing embroidery, paper-cutting, clay sculpture, weaving, carving, and ceramics, were featured in the competition.

Representative artists shared insights into their creations, discussed their cultural significance, and expressed their sentiments, fostering a collaborative environment for exchanging experiences and advancing the preservation of these cultural legacies.

The competition also engaged three higher education institutions in Ningxia, eight cultural and creative e-commerce enterprises, and over 100 primary and secondary school students in activities related to the protection of cultural heritage and experiential learning.

The event aims to explore the region's rich cultural traditions, promote the in-depth integration of cultural heritage and tourism, and establish a systematic protection mechanism, noted a representative of the organizers.
