Recently, Ningxia started conducting research on local high-quality development, exploring "Ningxia's model" through on-site investigations.

"When putting Polyglycolic Acid (PGA) in water or soil, people can adjust its degradation period by adjusting its proportion," said Wang Yu, executive director of Ningxia Ningdong Technology Entrepreneurial Investment Company on May 24th.

The raw materials for high-end medical products, such as absorbable surgical sutures, drug release carriers, fracture internal fixation, and tissue engineering repair materials, are all made of PGA, a biodegradable plastic. With the increasing global attention to plastic pollution problems, the Ningxia Ningdong Pilot Base has introduced the Shanghai Donggeng Biodegradable PGA project, and aims to contribute to the production of degradable green new materials.

Different from traditional polymer materials such as plastics and rubber, PGA gradually degrades after a certain period of use and ultimately becomes water and carbon dioxide, which are harmless to humans, animals, plants, and the natural environment. It is one of the best-known polymer materials in terms of degradation performance, and one of the few types of polymer materials that can quickly degrade in marine environments, which is of great significance for solving the current serious problem of white pollution.

Currently, the Donggeng PGA biodegradable plastic project has effectively solved problems encountered in the production process, such as incomplete dehydration, high temperature cracking reactions, and unstable product quality. It is expected to attract investment of over 4 billion yuan (about $562 million) upon its industrialization.
