On Jan 27, 2023, the first art salon of the year, "Suyang: A New Self" was held in MOCA Yinchuan.

Artist Su Yang, Zhang Xi, the founder of Modern Art Museum Shanghai and president of Halcyon Gallery China, and Zhao Ziyi, the curator of the "Spatio-temporal Configuration - Contemporary Reproduction of Historical Cultural Elements" exhibition, took the creation and identity transformation of the cross-border artist Su Yang as the starting point, discussing his creative concept, purpose, and the changes in his way of thinking about life and art, so as to inspire everyone to jump out of their comfort zones in the New Year and discover more possibilities.

Many audiences in Ningxia are familiar with Su as a singer. Inspired from traditional culture, he has improved and combined northwest folk music and traditional folk art forms, such as the "Hua'er" and "Qinqiang", with pop music, creating many songs that have had a great impact on the history of Chinese folk rock music.

This art salon, "Suyang: A New Self" enables Su to share his diversified and multidimensional exploration outside of music.

In 2016, Su launched the cross-border cultural and artistic creation plan "The Current Flow of the Yellow River", which includes four forms: performance, exhibition, discussion and exchange. Through paintings, videos, animation and other mediums, he has integrated folk and modern art forms for cross-border cooperation. He has also brought the "Current Flow of the Yellow River" to the United States, Brazil and Colombia, becoming the first Chinese musician to do hold comprehensive multimedia exhibition in the United States.

Over the past two years, Su has striven to enter the field of painting. In 2022, he successfully held the first solo exhibition of painting art in the Haihui Modern Art Museum in Zhengzhou, which saw the public begin to notice Su's talent for painting.

At present, Su's works are on display in the exhibition of "Spatio-temporal Configuration - Contemporary Reproduction of Historical Cultural Elements" in MOCA Yinchuan.

"I am not in a hurry to define myself, but more concerned about whether I can constantly explore my perception, understanding, and possibilities. Up until today, my understanding of myself has constantly been changing," said Su Yang.
