Strict control and prevention measures have been introduced to guard against COVID-19 in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province after the city reported a confirmed COVID-19 case on March 14.

The patient is a 38-year-old man surnamed Hu who lives in Qianwan New Area in the north of Ningbo.

Hu tested positive after a nucleic acid test on the morning of March 14 and has been sent to a designated hospital for treatment.

According to the local authorities, Hu had traveled outside of Zhejiang before he drove back to Ningbo on March 11.

Closed-loop management was imposed on the places where the patient lived and visited in the past four days, and mass nucleic acid tests were also launched in these areas on March 15.

The city also announced nearly 20 strict control and prevention measures on the evening of March 14.

According to the announcement, travelers to Ningbo coming from outside of Zhejiang province must provide negative results for a nucleic acid test taken within the last 48 hours.

Starting March 14, the frequency of nucleic tests for workers involved in medical centers, ports, designated sites, cold-chain logistics and express delivery will increase while sample tests will be launched at schools and companies with large numbers of workers.

More nucleic acid test sites, some of which will be open all day as needed, will be set up across the city to provide more convenient services for residents.
